Is 10 meters HF? If so, the HF part has been done as we had a HF port on the detroit.ampr.org switch back in the early 90's. Mostly it was for the fun (that dirty word) of the club members (detroit.ampr.org was a NOS network switch, with 8, count'em, 8 RF ports, which later the L'ans Cruese club bought off me and another fellow). However, I think a few folks did try some FBB style forwarding (a option of JNOS) on the HF 10 meter port. (which I understand is what WinLink uses as well)

Winlink isn't breaking any new ground, but it does integrate things together much better, and as I think someone already said, provides a way for the appliance operators to participate, which is really what makes it the killer ap.

IMHO, Linux will never make a significant inroads in the client market here, beyond those who are already running Linux, but as the internet proves beyond a doubt, it could have made a significant inroad into the server side of a WinLink like system. That (servers) is its real power.
