Well, according to the ARRL BOD, they "completed their mission" which was
the statement as they shut down the mailing list with no notice.

Primarily, I would say some of the HSMM's members outspoken (dissenting)
opinions on some of the boards positions on bandwidth by regulation as well
as encryption is what put the nails in the coffin.
