I'm giving a talk** that evening in Green Lake Park on Bats, but this
seemed like it might fit with y'all and your digital stuff...
Alaska Air goes SEA/AUS every day and I have lots of friends left from
my 5-call days if you need a place to stay.
Have fun,
ps - if anyone has any hints on why the DRM decoding for EasyPAL
through the 146.96/PSRG machine was nearly impossible last night I'd
love to better understand it.
We moved ultimately to the 444.550/ WW7SEA machine and got 21dB S/N
ratios and perfect decode on every transmission unless I dropped the
audio to force an error and repair report exchange.
Sad, 'cause we had a bunch of folks all dressed up to play DRM on PSRG.
It is surprising since DRM is robust on HF and if you can handle
multipath/Doppler/fading you might think the audio path through a
repeater should be a snap... Heck, people are doing MT63 through
Echolink...

Amateur Radio operators in Austin have modified the OpenWRT code to make
a WiFi Mesh network. The software is functional but needs improvements.
We are also looking at a custom processor board (Service Processor) to
add some additional capabilities.
Session 1: 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Overview of HSMM and the Austin
software
Limit 30 people.
Requirements: Nothing needed.
This session will be a slide presentation of using off-the-shelf Linksys
routers with custom software and better antennas. Example systems will
be on display. We will talk about events where we have used them.
Finally I will propose a HSMM network in Collin County, or the
metroplex.
Session 2: 10:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Loading and testing the Austin Code.
Limit 20 people.
Requirements: Bring a Linksys WRT54GL (v1.0 or 1.1) router and a
computer (Windows or Linux with an Ethernet port.) Extension cord, Power
Strip, an Ethernet Cable and if you have a HT bring it.
In this session we will take the compiled code and load it into the
WRT54GL router. Then we will take the routers outside and show them
automatically joining the mesh, and providing Internet access. If time
permits we may do range testing.
Session 3: 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Loading the development system and
code
Limit 10 people.
Requirements: Bring a Linux computer, because the development system is
in Linux. No version of Windows will work. Also bring a power strip, and
Ethernet Cable
In the session we will load the development environment and software to
compile the Linux Operating system, OpenWRT code, OLSR (Mesh SW) and
Austin Modifications. When completed you will have created the same
binary file as you used in Session 2. This is often the first obstacle
for people wanting to modify the software. The software needs more work,
and we are looking for people to help.
Please signup by emailing kip at kdream.com with what sessions you want to
attend. There is a limit to the number of people I can accommodate so
please do not sign up if you will not show up.
The class will be at Gary Johnson’s Pool House, 299 Connor Lane. Lucas,
TX. The sessions will start promptly. So be there early.
