Packet Chat

Hmmm - this might inspire me to dig out the dedicated 147.60 rig (also
9k6-capable), find another antenna, and attachement point for same, and
another TNC - maybe a DSP-2232 or PK-900? Just so I can switch quickly to
9k6 and back...
So, does that write-up also deal with using Baycom modems yet? I got one
recently for as little as $1.25 plus shipping, on eBay. And apparently
unused - the radio cable hadn't been molested.
Man, it's been a long time since I set one of those up - last done on a
Pentium 150mmx laptop. Oh - I think AGWPE should also be able to deal with
those. They have the cost/benefit ratio of using 1 serial port (total)
instead of one sound card I/O set and one serial port. And the transmit
audio level isn't at the mercy of the system's audio mixer. It's just that
all its good for is 1k2 packet.

HOWTO's for AX.25 and/or Soundmodem on Linux:
http://www.xastir.org/wiki/index.php/HowTos
I should be able to disconnect Xastir from the TNC-X, dial over to 147.60,
and play TCP/IP sometime. Let me know when you're ready.
